Dad certainly went through a mandolin phase. He loved building them and experimenting with them. It was about this time he realized (or it was mentioned to him) that all of the “boys” had guitars and all of the grandchildren had guitars but my sister and I did not.
Always a fair man, he built us each a mandolin. He then embarked on building a mandolin for each of his grandchildren upon their graduation (from High School or College whichever timing worked the best).
This is my mandolin. Rarely played and pristine. He would not consider this a good thing as they were made to be played but one of my grandchildren will certainly be happy about it.
