1986 Repair Project

-Contributed by James Bolenbaugh-

I bought this guitar from a fellow in Las Vegas who clearly played it a lot, and played it hard. I bought it as a repair project. I don’t know when I will get around to it, but I always wanted one of my grandpas Jumbo Archtop Jazz Guitars. From the looks of it this is a Mahogany body, and it has the really innovative adjustable pickups that he wound himself. They have little thumb screws and a track so you can position the pickups wherever you want. This guitar is also rare because of the F-Holes. He never made guitars with round ended F Holes in my memory, and I have seen very few photos of guitars like that. I also know there are older guitars than this where he didn’t round the F Holes. It’s a great little detail and rarity that i will cherish. I will post some photos after the rehab of the guitar. Not sure when I will get around to it, but certainly I will be between gigs sometime in the next couple of years. In the meantime, beneath all the cracks and dings, it’s still a breath taking instrument.
